Zombies

*This is part of the A to Z challenge for April.

I just adore The Walking Dead and I am enjoying Fear The Walking Dead.

I didn’t always like zombies. I had a child who was terrified of them and I thought it was ridiculous that so many people seemed to be obsessed with something that is completely unbelievable. One day someone was trying to convince me that zombies could be real and that they would be able to walk through the river and up the hill to my home. Mind you, said terrified child was present and listening and I was getting a little annoyed that the speaker was trying to make said child more terrified.

I told my child something like, “Zombies are not real and even if they were, they would not be able to walk across a river. The current would pull them out to the ocean and far, far away.”

Of course my child has grown since then and fully understands zombies aren’t likely to take over the world. Still it’s fun to watch shows and read books about zombies. I particularly like the ones that portray zombies as people who are really just sick and act like rabid animals, but are still breathing and not really dead.

I don’t understand why people would believe that something dead could still walk without completely rotting away. Imagine an entire year of weather changes and all the insects that would surely eat the flesh off the zombies; that’s an image I don’t think needs to be in the minds of small children.

So, what do you believe? Could zombies be real, or are they just a really great subject for books, movies, and campfire stories?

Somedays what keeps me going is the belief that one day there will be a zombie apocalypse (it’s been a challenging few months…). Then I think, maybe things don’t need to get quite THAT interesting. I do enjoy my zombie TV though 🙂

I don’t understand why people are so obsessed with zombies. It’s a trend I’ve missed entirely. I don’t play the video games or watch the shows, about the closest I can come is Night of the Comet from when I was a kid. Just not my thing. And in the event of a zombie apocalypse, I would be a zombie I’m sure. Trip over some air, get bitten… poor me.

I love that show! Now zombies happening for real? Eh. But I could see where something viral could affect people worldwide like that did and cause something similar to a zombie apocalypse. The interesting thing about TWD isn’t the zombies so much as how they are psychologically affected and retain their humanity. Otherwise, I could generally do without zombies, except in games, but that’s because I love to shoot stuff up.

  4. I agree, I didn’t want to watch the show at first, but I watched a few episodes and it was the human reaction that hooked me. I agree that something might happen that will test our humanity. I hope to be surrounded by the right people.
