Flash Fiction/ Flash Fire

Dan Alatorre posted a flash fiction challenge that I thought I would try. The challenge is to write an opening paragraph that uses at least three senses and still hooks the reader.

My three senses are feeling, hearing, and smell.

The young bride was shivering so much the cups rattled on the shelf. She silently cursed the fireplace, where the wood refused to produce flame. Smoke penetrated her lungs, and she coughed with great hacking sounds. As she glared at the fireplace, a sudden flash of light temporarily blinded her. No longer suffering from the cold, she screamed in agonizing pain. Her body was never found in the charred remains of the house.

I have no idea where I would go with this story. Might have to have her haunting her groom!

Your flash fiction ending surprised me. I like the ghost idea. Must have been some life insurance policy. Erie.
