“Let your smile be your umbrella!”
Yeah, I’m calling the “bullshit card” on this. Really? A smile is going to keep you dry during a downpour? I don’t think so.
However….. I was driving my car the other day and I was in a good mood. I was smiling because I was in a good mood.
Now I live in a rural area and when driving I am able to casually look at the drivers in the cars passing me. I did this, smiling, and noticed more than one driver passing me suddenly smile back at me. None of those smiles seemed forced. They simply smiled because they saw a smile.
SO….
Today’s challenge is to smile.
Why? Because people see a smile and return it. Will it make a huge difference in their lives, and therefore in the world? Maybe not, but I prefer to think it will.
If you smile at one person and they pass on that smile to the next person they see; soon the world might be smiling. If the world smiles, it will be a happier world.
How can you hurt anyone when you are wearing a smile? How could you feel sad when smiling?
Try to smile without being happier. It simply must be impossible.
If you don’t believe a smile could make a difference, understand a grouchy expression makes you ugly. It does. Nobody wants to look at someone who is grouchy.
A smile makes you beautiful. People will want to be around you because you make them happier simply by smiling. When people are happier, they make the world a better place to be.
There is a man in my county named Hoppy. If you live in Cecil County, you know him. He leans against a certain bridge, usually with a bicycle near him, and waves at every passing car. We can’t pass him without waving and smiling. Many people honk their horns when they see him. His smile is brighter when people wave or honk.
Hoppy, named because he has a limp – who would know that, has said he does this because he wants to bring a smile to the people around him. I think Hoppy really understands that a smile is important.
When we don’t see Hoppy, we worry. Is he alright? We send well wishes his way and we wave even more enthusiastically when we see him again.
So, go ahead and let your smile be your umbrella. May it shield you from any downpour of sadness or other heavy thoughts. May your smile lift, not only your soul, but the sould of others.
Smile…. make the world a better place.
I’m from a rural area and everyone waves in passing cars whether you know them or not….here in the city people scoff if you wave.
Smiles. laughter, peace, and love…all contagious, pass it on!
